Black Stone Fireplace and Built Ins

This wall is one piece of joinery and one piece of stone working together. A black slab wraps the firebox and returns along the hearth, and the white millwork is built around it in a deliberately irregular grid of openings rather than the usual symmetrical bookcases.

Shown here before the floors went back down and the room was dressed, which is the stage where the setting out is actually visible. Once a wall like this is finished you stop seeing the structure of it, which is the point.
